Masque of the Red Death is a story about disillusionment and love in a world ravaged by plague. It's the story of Araby Worth, a teen who has to find a reason to keep living after her twin brother's death, when all she wants to do is forget.
Araby and her best friend April, wealthy teens who have access to the masks that protect them from the plague, spend their evenings at the notorious Debauchery Club where they try to forget how bleak their world has become. Despite herself, Araby is intrigued by Will, the darkly handsome tattooed boy who lets them into the club and tests them for illness.
As she learns more about Will and his life in the lower city, Araby begins to question her own comfortable existence. At the same time, April's older brother Elliott is pulling Araby into a web of intrigue that he hopes will end with a revolution and a change to the injustices of the city. Meanwhile, Elliott's uncle, the dictatorial Prince Prospero, holds wild parties outside the city for the lucky few who are invited.
Masque is a dark book set in a dark world inspired by the story The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe. It is a speculative history story, set in an alternate plague-riddled past, with elements of intrigue and adventure and romance. All of the characters have secrets, and everyone seems ready to betray Araby. While Araby struggles to make the right decisions and decide who to trust, she is also forced to decide between two very hot guys, in fact as you’re reading Masque feel free to tweet me at @_bethanygriffin and let me know which one you prefer!
