Hull Royal Infirmary

Hull Royal Infirmary, Hull

Birth place of Lilah McAvoy. This is also the scene of the second attack on arsonist Trevor Jefferson, and of McAvoy’s meeting with Hannah Kelly’s father.

Hull General Hospital was built in 1782, then in 1884 foundation stone was laid for a new building and it was renamed Hull Royal Infirmary. The hospital moved to Anlaby Road in 1967 and was opened by Queen Elizabeth II. The site is dominated by a 13-floor high tower block which houses the majority of the wards.

“They are four storeys up, enjoying one of the few private rooms on the maternity unit of Hull Royal Informary. The vantage point affords them a view of a city rendered almost faceless. Its landmarks, its idiosyncrasies, its character, all mute and anonymous beneath a thick covering of white.”DARK WINTER

Dark Winter: A DS McAvoy novel by David Mark

DARK WINTER

Hull, East Yorkshire. Two weeks before Christmas an elderly man – the only survivor of a fishing trawler tragedy 40 years before – is found murdered at sea.

In a church, a young girl who is the last surviving member of a family slaughtered during the conflict in Sierra Leone, is hacked to death with a machete.

Someone is killing sole survivors in the manner they had escaped death. And it falls to Detective Sergeant Aector McAvoy of Humberside CID to find out who.

‘An exceptional debut from an exciting new talent. David Mark is an original and captivating new voice.’
